Being a Teacher in Crisis: A Haiku

We go to our classrooms

and wear masks and gloves

to protect all

from harm and disease–

to teach those who are there

and those that are not;

we work as hard as those who

rowed ships by hand

in the times of Rome

yet have more expectations

placed upon them;

Exposed and in danger,

protecting the innocent

who must learn

in a world of worry

and fear….

Courage defined.
